The Espai d´ Art Contemporani of Castelló presents In Suspension, a group exhibition project in which artists Alexander Apóstol (Barquisimeto, 1969), Héctor Zamora (Mexico City, 1974), and Cinthia Marcelle (Belo Horizonte, 1974) reflect on unfinished architectures, the future of urban development, and on—as of lately—the large number of construction processes that are interrupted before they can be completed.
Some of the works exhibited at the EACC include: the Skeleton Coast (2005) photographic series created on the Coast of Margarita Island (Venezuela) by Alexander Apóstol—a place full of hotels and houses that were never completely built; the videos A Fonte (The Fountain, 2005) and 475 Volver (475, To Come To, 2009) by Cinthia Marcelle that analyze the lack of self-functionality found in empty plots; as well as several pieces that Héctor Zamora created with bricks and tiles, in order to explore the notions of construction and deconstruction within the public space. Such is the case of the work entitled Swiss Modul Tropicalizado (2012).
These works question the consequences of the economy of the brick at the global level, as they emphasize Spanish and Latin American geographic environments in which urban development has been shaken as result of the economic phases of growth and recession.
The group of works exhibited at the EACC include about twenty sculptures, photographs, and videos created during recent years as critical and ironic mirrors that reflect the problems of sustainability generated by economic growth and its effect on architecture.
The exhibition will remain open to the public until December 30, 2012.
