The Museum announced the appointment of Elvis Fuentes as its new Executive Director. Fuentes comes from the Jane Voorhees Zimmerli Art Museum in Rutgers University where he was Dodge-Lawrence Graduate Curatorial Fellow at the Department of Russian and Soviet Nonconformist Art while completing his doctoral studies in Art History.
Fuentes boasts an impressive curatorial and educational career of more than twenty years of work with museums as well as cultural and academic institutions in the United States, Europe, Latin America, and the Caribbean. One of his highlight exhibition projects was Caribbean: Crossroads of the World. As its Project Director, Fuentes led a team of nine curators and experts that produced groundbreaking scholarship and was presented concurrently in three museums in New York City.
Fuentes won the Grand Prix of the 26th Ljubljana International Biennial of Graphic Arts with the curatorial project, Print as Metaphor, in Ljubljana, Slovenia. More recently, he was appointed as Chief Curator of the San Juan Polygraphic Triennial, which is scheduled to take place in San Juan, Puerto Rico, in 2024.
“We are thrilled that Elvis Fuentes is joining us as Executive Director,” said Jose Valdes-Fauli, Chairman of the Board. “Having worked with several museums in New York and Miami as well as with many foundations supporting museums, he comes at a time in which (..) our museum is making big strides in the Miami art community. His wealth of expertise and experience will help further the mission of the Coral Gables Museum”.
