1968. | She was born in Montevideo where she lives and works.
¿My work does not tell a store. I want it to tell its own store by itself. I want it to be able to make us look at it, as if it were the one who looks at us¿.
Eloísa Ibarra¿s work invites us to a tranquil contemplation. Simplicity. The expression of a deliberate austerity that turns into an allusion to deeply human complexities. In her paintings, she proposes walls as an analogy of the inner barrier of our own protected world.
"Walls organized almost constructively on a limited color base, exploring the tonalities of the surface. Sensitive walls, observed from within, with cracks, with patches, reconstructed, intuitively reorganized." When moving forward, there is an attempt at liberation, an opening, a search tending to leave aside the limitations of support, "¿sometimes, my paintings become sculptures." And in my sculpture, cube interiors and cubicles are also recurrent. The game goes on, the tension between disclosing and hiding the inner world. "Richness is found in the interior, whose access seemed limited at first." It may allude to the balance between the ability to feel and to express that feeling.
