El Tiempo del Arte. Obras Maestras del Siglo XVI al Siglo XXI (The Time of Art. Masterpieces from the XVI to the XXI Centuries)

El Tiempo del Arte is an exhibition organized by the Fundación Proa, and by the Accademia Carrara and GAMEC (Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art), in Bergamo. With the support of the Italian Embassy in Argentina and the Italian Cultural Institute in Buenos Aires, the exhibition brings together a group of over one hundred works of art that transcend various centuries of Art History. The curatorship by Giacinto Di Pietrantonio proposes a look into history through a dialogue among antiquity, modernity, and contemporaneity that relies upon a group of landmark masterpieces created between the XVI and XXI Centuries. Giacinto Di Pietrantonio proposes a universe of possibilities, reflections, images, and discourses to reflect on the great themes of our civilization. To do this, he divides the El Tiempo del Arte exhibition into eight thematic nuclei: power; the everyday; life; death; mind; body; love, and hate. These cover the human problematic by means of images from history throughout time. In each of these nuclei, it is possible to observe ancient works conversing with modern and contemporary ones; in other words, it is possible to observe the manner in which photography, painting, video, and installation ¿ and several other artistic disciplines ¿ interact with the masterful portraits of famous historic personalities. In this way, we are able to obtain a deep and fresh reading into how art from different periods has presented the great themes that have always affected humanity, while we can also to establish similarities and differences. But most importantly, we are permitted to trace the path of our culture. The exhibition subscribes to the tradition and review of historical time through the existence of the Museum. Some of the notable artists present at this exhibition are Agostino Carraci, Tiépolo, Velásquez, Piero Paoloni, Joseph Kosuth, Morandi, León Ferrari, Hélio Oiticica, Gilbert & George, De Chirico, and Jeff Wall, among others. Their combined works in this context represent a proposal never before seen. El Tiempo del Arte. Obras Maestras del Siglo XVI al Siglo XXI will remain open until October 3, 2010.
