Known as Professional Development for Educators (AME, in Spanish acronym,) this program implemented by the Cisneros Foundation, with Patricia Phelps de Cisneros at the helm, is part of the group¿s support of innovative programs in education and culture. AME is an answer to one of Latin America¿s biggest challenges: the need to facilitate for the public education system the development of teachers in a world increasingly more based on and powered by global information. Focused on the teaching or reading, writing, math, health, ethics, informational technology, music, art appreciation, and environmental science, the AME program has developed a virtual and unique approach to teaching in its network to help teachers improve their skills and bring their knowledge up to date. Four Latin American and one Spanish universities assess teachers and issue certificates. Recently, the program was nominated as a finalist for the Stockholm Challenge Award, in recognition of its innovative use of Web technologies as educational tools.
