The Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía has announced the appointment of Amanda de la Garza as its new artistic deputy director. Hailing from Mexico, Amanda de la Garza is a curator and art historian. Since 2020, she has held the position of General Director of Visual Arts at the Museo Universitario Arte Contemporáneo (MUAC) of UNAM. Her affiliation with this institution dates back to 2012, when she started as an assistant curator.
Throughout her career, Amanda de la Garza has been responsible for curating and organizing over 30 exhibitions of modern and contemporary art. Additionally, she is an active member of the boards of CIMAM (International Committee for Museums and Collections of Modern Art), ICOM Mexico, and AAMD (Association of Art Museum Directors).
The selection process for her appointment as artistic deputy director was conducted through a call for applications posted on the museum's website, ensuring the selection of the candidate based on principles of merit, capacity, and suitability. In her new role, Amanda de la Garza will oversee the museum's exhibition program, public programs, presentations, and the growth of its Collection. She will also supervise restoration projects, the museum's registry, library and archives work, as well as the research apparatus necessary for the museum's development.
