MUNTREF opens "Marie Orensanz, the Flow of Thought"
After a decade of not being exhibited in a museum in Argentina, the conceptual work of Marie Orensanz arrives in her birth country with the exhibition "Marie Orensanz, el fluir del pensamiento" (Marie Orensanz, the Flow of Thought). This show was inaugurated last April 1st at the Museo Nacional de la Universidad Tres de Febrero (MUNTREF- Centro de Arte Contemporáneo), under the curatorship of Diana Wechsler. The exhibition brings together works by the artist from the sixties and seventies, but also establishes a dialogue with her current production. As well, the exhibition presents a wide range of types of works: sculptures, drawings, and photographs, accompanied by the artist's personal notebooks.
The exhibition "Marie Orensanz, el fluir del pensamiento" focuses on delving into the artist's creative process, specifically into the thoughts that exist in each piece and the way in which text and work are connected. In this sense, curator Diana Wechsler notes, "Texts and more texts run through the pages of her notebooks and become an indispensable part of her works. Each of the chosen supports is linked to what she wishes to communicate, to the ways in which she seeks to place herself before the gaze and to trigger ideas: because her work is completed with/in the other, it is a shared flow."
This description can be read in the light of what Christine Frérot proposed in a review of the artist published in ArtNexus in 1999 (ArtNexus No. 32), in which she defines Orensanz's work as a search for "constancy in change, and continuity in difference" and the search of a "desire to reduce the object in an attempt to grasp more fully its qualities of incompleteness.” This constant in Orensanz's work through the exploration of process, the change and the undefined can be seen in the exhibition at MUNTREF.
