The Baroque World of Fernando Botero

From March 19 to June 12, 2011, the Toledo Museum of Art (TAD) presents the exhibition by Colombian artist Fernando Botero entitled The Baroque World of Fernando Botero. Organized by Art Services International of Alexandria, this is the final presentation of an exhibition that opened in 2007 and that has traveled to several cities in the U.S. and Canada. The exhibition presents one hundred works, including paintings, sculptures, and drawings, that belong to Botero's private collection and that cover the last 50 years of his artistic career. These pieces are inspired by the works of some Baroque painters whose proposals he reinterprets and frames in the Latin American context. John Sillevis, curator at the Gemeentemuseum, was responsible for selecting the works and succeeded in showcasing several phases of development in Botero's career.
