The International Center of Photography and its Selection Committee, comprised of prestigious critics, curators, and photography conservationists, has given its Infinity Award to the year's best publication to El movimiento de la fotografía obrera (1926-1939). Ensayos y documentos.
This book came out on the occasion of Una luz dura, sin compasión: El movimiento de la fotografía obrera, 1926-1939, held at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía under the curatorship of Jorge Ribalta. Published by the Museo Reina Sofía and Tf. Editores, it comes in both Spanish and English versions. It includes a selection of historical text (for the most part, translated into Spanish for the first time) and contemporary essays by Bela Albertini, Filip Bool, Cristina Cuevas-Wolf, Simon Dell, Duncan Forbes, Jorge Ribalta, Josef Seiter, Rudolf Stumberger, Anne Tucker, Matthew Witkowsky and Erika Wolf.
This publication is an essential reference for the study of the movement's photographic expression and contributes to the narrative of photographic modernity, not only based on the authors and their images as autonomous, isolated events, but by documenting public debates and modes of circulation of the photographs.
Established in 1974 by photo-journalist Cornell Capa, the International Center of Photography is a world-famous museum and photography school located in New York City. This year marks the 18th edition of the Center's Infinity Award.
