Carmen Cervera is the owner of 430 European paintings loaned to the Fundación Thyssen-Bronemisza. An agreement reached in 1999 between the two parties was supposed to end, or be extended, in the month of January, but negotiations are still underway because Cervera is asking to "take 60 works every year for exhibitions in and out of Spain." According to some journalistic sources, the Baroness has threatened to take her private collection—insured for 80 million euros—outside of Spain. It appears that the negotiations do not affect most of the artworks exhibited in the museum since those were sold by Hans Heinrich von Thyssen-Bornemisza to the Spanish state in 1993. Carmen Cervera has announced the opening of the Museo Carmen Thyssen on the Principality of Andorra, where she lives with her family.
