MAMBO inaugurates (Te busco en otro nombre). Bitácora guatemalteca

El Museo de Arte Moderno de Bogotá - MAMBO inaugurated "(Te busco en otro nombre). Bitácora guatemalteca", an exhibition by Argentinean artist Ana Gallardo in co-creation with María Us. This project was awarded with the Premio Julius Baer a las artistas latinoamericanas, a biennial award granted by the MAMBO and the Julius Baer Bank. Ana Gallardo (Argentina, 1958) is a multimedia artist based in Mexico, and director of the IMAN school, La Verdi CDMX. Her work has been exhibited internationally, in institutions such as the Museo Universitario de Arte Contemporáneo (MUAC); Museo Jumex (Mexico City); the 56th Venice Biennale, and the Palais de Tokyo (Paris).
Specifically for the MAMBO exhibition, Gallardo made monumental charcoal drawings that María Us intervened with texts related to her experience as a female ex-combatant of the Guatemala civil war. The resulting work is an immersive experience inviting the spectator to witness women's stories embedded in war situations and the violence perpetrated on their bodies by armed actors. Elene Oliveras, in a monographic article published by ArtNexus in 2018, quotes the artist's words in which she reflects on the relationship between art and politics: "'We have a kind of power that articulates a problem and renders it visible so that a change can begin to be made.' Politics, beyond the exercise of power (...), consists in making us see the world and (...) in giving voice to those who do not possess it."
The exhibition will be on view until October 1, 2023, at the Museo de Arte Moderno de Bogotá, Cl. 24 #6-00, Bogota, Colombia.
