MALBA will inaugurate on July 7th "Gyula Kosice: Intergaláctico", the first monographic exhibition dedicated to the Argentine artist, born in 1924 in Czechoslovakia and deceased in Buenos Aires in 2016. The exhibition includes around 75 works produced between 1950 and 1980, among which his iconic installation “La ciudad hidroespacial” (The Hydrospatial City, 1946-1972) is included, part of the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. This work consists of 18 independent modules that simulate a floating city, accompanied by 8 light boxes representing its position on a galactic scale.
Additionally, the exhibition encompasses research on the artist's use of plastic, carried out by a specialized team, and the publication of a catalog edited in collaboration with the ICAA-MFAH. This initiative aims to highlight the relevance and significance of Kosice's work today, especially in the context of climate change.
The exhibition, organized in collaboration with The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, is curated by María Amalia García and Mari Carmen Ramírez.
The exhibition will be open for visitation until November 4, 2024, in Room 5, Level 2, MALBA, Av. Pres. Figueroa Alcorta 3415, C1425CLA Cdad. Autónoma de Buenos Aires, Argentina.
