Founded by Eduardo Costantini, the Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires (MALBA) has officially announced that, after four years as artistic director of the institution (from May 2014 to May 2018), Agustín Pérez-Rubio will be leaving that post to continue his work in the curatorial and institutional fields. The decision was reached mutually. During his tenure, Agustín Pérez-Rubio has pushed for an inclusive and diverse program centered on Latin American art in collaboration with other local, regional and international agents, in addition to developing a series of public programs and new publications shaped by a critical and emancipating gaze. Under his leadership, the museum has also encouraged a transversal and organic way of working across the different areas of the institution. With respect to the museum's collection, he spearheaded a two-year-long research project that culminated with the exhibition titled "Verbamerica"—co-curated with Andrea Giunta—which showcased the collection from a post-colonial view of Latin American art. Two central objectives of his tenure have been, on the one hand, to increase the presence of, and exhibitions by, women artists and, on the other, the inclusion of projects associated with gender diversity. In the coming months, Pérez-Rubio will continue to be in charge of the program of the museum, which has already been announced until May of 2018. Thereafter, he will remain in contact with the MALBA team in an advisory capacity and to collaborate on future projects. At the same time, the museum will begin looking for a new director whose appointment will be announced at an appropriate time.
