IVAM presents a retrospective exhibition by Carmen Calvo

On the occasion of the Premio Julio González on July 14, granted to Carmen Calvo (Valencia, 1950), the IVAM presents an exhibition that reviews this artist's main lines of research from the late sixties of the twentieth century to the present. Calvo's work is largely based on recovering and reworking discarded images and objects. In her complex creative process, the artist constructs her world vision by activating mechanisms such as daydreaming, memory, desire, or fear.
The exhibition begins with a selection of works from the eighties belonging to her emblematic series Escrituras, Recopilación, and Reconstrucción (Writings, Compilation and Reconstruction). These are a group of works in plaster and terracotta assembled in a patient exercise of archaeological collection and classification, works that evoke vestiges recovered from ancestral writings.
The central space of Gallery 1 presents a recreation of the artist's workshop in this exhibition. A prominent place is occupied by Carmen Calvo's critical view of women's oppression and inequality, a reflection that the artist has intensified in the last decade.
The exhibition curated by IVAM director Nuria Enguita and Joan Ramón Escrivá will be open to the public until November 6, 2022.
