In commemoration of the 400th anniversary of the death of El Greco, the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum is presenting the exhibition El Greco. From Italy to Toledo.
The show presents the results of the technical studies carried out by the museum's Restoration Department on the four works by the artist currently in its collection: La Anunciación, c. 1576; Cristo abrazando la cruz, c. 1587-1596; La Anunciación, c. 1596-1600 y La Inmaculada Concepción, c. 1608-1614.
The opportunity to study these paintings, belonging to different periods in El Greco's career and created in different locations, is an excellent occasion to delve in the artist's technical and conceptual evolution during two well differentiated stages of his life, over a two-decade span.
