TEOR/éTica and Lado V invite emerging artists to submit proposals for production grants, each in the amount of US$500.

El Flotador’s support is intended to finance production by emerging Central American artists working in the visual arts field. The purpose of the grant is to give visibility and support the work of artists with lesser known projects in the international or regional scene. Special attention will be given to works based on the research process, be it with regards to form, matter, space, the body, the context, and/or of a historical and theoretical nature.
Requirements:
•For citizens and residents of Costa Rica, Panama, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Honduras, and Belize.
•Not open to TEOR/éTica grant recipients from the last 5 years (Texto Crítico Grant, Catalyst Grant, Mobility Grant, Alter Academia, Emerging Artists, Interdisciplinary Grant, Curatorial Grant)
•Not open to students currently enrolled in any secondary educational institution, or to undergraduates or graduate students in an art school.
•Open to artists younger than 40 on the date of this call (August 12, 2019)
Grant amount: US$500
Artists must submit a single PDF document to comunicacion@teoretica.org, with:
•Personal information: full name, country of citizenship, country of residence, country of birth, birthdate, education, occupation.
•A 600-word description, in Spanish, of their artistic practice and the specific need the grant will cover.
•Two to six images of works from the last 3 years, accompanied by a brief description.
The file must be named as follows: FLOT, underscore, name of the artist, underscore, title of the project. Example: FLOT_DanielaMora_EsferasdePiedra.pdf
Selection process: The members of the selection committee are Sofía Gallisá Muriente (Co-Director Beta Local, Puerto Rico), Ximena Gama (Arts Curator, Cinemateca de Bogotá, Colombia), and María José Monge (Visual Arts Curator, Banco Central Museums, Costa Rica).
Uses of the grand funds: Grant funds can be used to cover production costs for art projects, including equipment rental, materials, travel, third-party services, printing costs for supporting documentation, as well as personal and group expenses associates with the development of the work (transportation, per diem, etc.) Grant funds cannot be used to finance works or projects to be exhibited in commercial galleries or art fairs, nor to settle personal debts, publicity expenses, or expenses associated with exhibition catalogs. The purpose of the grant is to supplement budgets for the production of a research project to be completed immediately or within three months.
Recipients’ Duties: Grant recipients will submit a 500-page text and three photographs within three months after the funds are disbursed, documenting the use of the funds and the final results. Any future presentation or publication of the work must be accompanied by a simple credit line, as follows: “Produced with the support of El Flotador Grant, TEOR/éTica, 2019”.
