Under the firm belief that art can bring us together while apart during this time of isolation and quarantine, artist-photographer Spencer Tunick is inviting people worldwide to take part in a new series of online communal art works entitled Stay Apart Together. Tunick is creating virtual art actions featuring nude bodies – often 25 at a time – from different parts of the world. Through the use of a virtual chat platform, participants are directed to pose under Tunick’s direction and stand in unison to reaffirm the resilience of community and human connection in times of isolation.
Stay Apart Together is intended to be a creative outlet for participants isolating and quarantined at home, an artistic exploration of the possibilities of human connection in the virtual world, but most importantly, an invitation to stay strong, safe, and united. Tunick states, “I think as photographers and artists working with groups of people, we need to learn how to adapt and not be stifled by limitations during these trying times. New ways of connectivity will evolve, creating innovative human connectivity with social distancing in mind.”
Stay Apart Together will be his first work being directed completely online.
The resulting artwork will be exhibited on the artist’s Instagram account
