Eduardo Emilio Esparza 2011 Josep de Rivera-Xátiva Award

Colombian artist Eduardo Emilio Esparza was recognized with the 2011 Josep de Rivera-Xátiva Award from the International Engraving Biennial, for his work entitled Visibles 5. Achieved through a technique that combines etching and collagraphy, Esparza¿s piece was chosen from among 290 proposals. This etching sheds light on the more than 180,000 anonymous victims as result of the prevailing armed conflict in Colombia. Esparza has worked in several engraving workshops in Colombia and Cuba. Some of the most important recognitions he has received include: Honorable Mention at the Young Artist Salon in Palmira and another Honorable Mention at the 8th Small-Format Engraving Triennial in Chamalières, France. Other artists recognized in this engraving biennial-that also received Honorable Mentions-include: Irving Herrera from México, for his work entitled Dulce Cocuyo (Sweet Firefly), created with a xylography technique; David Maes, from France, for his etching entitled Para A.G. (To A.G.); and Marcin Bialas from Poland, for his work entitled SZA E820. The winning works will be shown at an exhibition to be held on November 18 of this year at the Casa de la Cultura.
