The government of Madrid announces the opening of the call DocumentaMadrid, a festival centered on the multiple artistic expressions of documentary filmmaking and the exploration of those itineraries of the real opened to new languages and expressions of the genre. The 14th edition of the Madrid International Documentary Film Festival will be held May 4 -14, 2017. Depending on the duration of the documentaries, participants may apply to participate in different categories of the completion and in the pursuit of different awards. Both feature and short documentary films competing may also apply for the following awards, which will be granted based on votes from the participating public (placed after the screening of the films): Cineteca Madrid Award by the public to Best Feature Film, consisting of an award for distribution and/or exhibition, plus diploma. The Cineteca Madrid Award by the public to the Best Short Feature Documentary Film, consisting of an award for distribution and/or exhibition, plus diploma. They call is open in all of its modalities to any producers and/or directors natural persons or legal entities who own the rights of the work and have already gone through the selection process. All the works submitted in the different categories must have been produced after January 1, 2016. The movies participating in the International competitions for Feature and Short Documentary Films cannot be exhibited in Spain, released in movie theaters, commercialized in Spanish territory or broadcast in any Spanish TV channel before the date in which the event is celebrated. The works will be presented in their original language. Any films not originally in Spanish must be submitted with an additional copy with Spanish or English subtitles. All the proposals for any of the sections of the Festival must be submitted before January 31, 2017. The application can only be submitted online through the Festival's official homepage.
