The Ministry of Culture in Argentina opened a public call to fill directive positions in ten national museums. The step is part of the Institutional Strengthening Plan for Museums spearheaded last May by Américo Castilla, director of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, who for years has been studying the evolution of museums around the world. Published in the Official Gazette of the nation, the call offers posts for artistic and executive directors for the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, Museo del Cabildo, Museo Malvinas, Casa Natal de Sarmiento, Museo del Traje, Museo Nacional de Arte Decorativo, Casa de Yrurtia, Instituto de Investigaciones Históricas of the Museo Roca, Casa de Ricardo Rojas, and the Instituto de Antropología y Pensamiento Latinoamericano (INAPL). Online applications that include the applicants' academic and job histories will be received from October 10 through October 28. The candidates who successfully pass that screening will be given a technical evaluation scheduled for November. Then, in early December, the candidates must submit a managerial project. A job interview is scheduled for before December 9 and, lastly, "by December 14, the list of selected candidates will have been presented to the Minister of Culture who has the final say," said Américo Castilla in an interview with Télam [Argentina's national news agency]. About the call, Américo Castilla said that "The job requirements for each of the museums have changed considerably. To modernize their management, the institutions now aspire to be more clearly oriented to the public, digital culture, training and transversal decision-making. In order to accommodate new paradigms, the job descriptions for the director posts have been individually tailored to meet the needs of each museum. Salaries will range from 55,000 to 60,000 Argentine pesos, depending on each case. Américo Castilla added that "As result of this competition, now it is possible to add executive functions to the job description of all the national directors of museums, something that did not occur before." Candidates must have completed at least a four-year undergraduate and graduate degree on the subject, and they are "also required to be up-to-date on the advances and development of museums around the world."
