The Films by Ana Mendieta Have Been Digitized

Among the legacies of US-based Cuban artist Ana Mendieta were the more than one hundred films created by her between 1971 (while a student at the University of Iowa) and 1981. An interest shown by her niece, Raquel Cecilia Mendieta, who had been entrusted with the care of the artist's films, led to a project that lasted more than three years: the recovery and digitization of all of her filmed material. Thirteen of this works are currently exhibited at the Lelong Gallery in New York City, nine of which have never been shown before. Having all this film and digitized material together allows for a deep look into the work of this creator and the mediums that she relied on to express herself.
