Despistando al Enemigo (Misleading the Enemy)

The exhibit Despistando al Enemigo will remain open until October 31 at the Laboratorio Interdisciplinario para las Artes-L.I.A. (Interdisciplinary Laboratory for the Arts), a new independent space in Bogota, located at #2-7 13th Street. Curated by Inti Guerrero, this exhibit gathers together the artists Yael Bartana (Israel), Patricia Esquivias (Venezuela), Edwin Sánchez (Colombia), and Fernando Sánchez-Castillo (Spain). At first, the exhibited works place the spectator in a dominating and controlling position inside dialectic games that produce winners and losers. Nevertheless, all the works possess defying gestures that disturb the oppressive exercise of power and generate ¿empowered voices¿: Yael Bartana (Semillas Salvajes [Wild Seeds], 2005) conveys such a gesture within the context of geopolitical conflict; Fernando Sánchez-Castillo frames it in the dismantling of military forces; Patricia Esquivias includes it in her personal construction of history, and Edwin Sánchez does the same through urban violence and a country¿s armed conflict. This exhibit was made possible by the ARTERIA Art Foundation, the Embassy of Spain, the Embassy of Mexico, and by Dell.
