Desenhar No Espaço

Ten major Latin American abstract artists will be presented at the exhibition entitled Desenhar No Espaço (To Draw in Space). Organized by the Fundaçao Iberê Camargo, the Pinacoteca do Estado de Sao Paulo, and the Fundación Cisneros, the exhibition will be open to the public from July 30th through October 31st, 2010. Desenhar No Espaço consists of a selection of works by Venezuelan artists Carlos Cruz-Diez, Gego, Alejandro Otero and Jesus Soto, and by Brazilian artists Hércules Barsotti, Lygia Clark, Willys de Castro, Judith Lauand, Hélio Oiticica and Mira Schendel, all from the Colección Patricia Phelps de Cisneros, one of the most important collections of modern and contemporary art from Latin America. Curated by Ariel Jiménez, the exhibition goes beyond a comparison of the evolution of abstract art in the two countries to provide, through the works of these key artists, a broader overview of the formation of avant-garde movements in the modern era in South America. After being presented at the Fundaçao Iberê Camargo in Porto Alegre, Brazil, the exhibition will travel to the Pinacoteca do Estado do Sao Paulo from November 27th 2010 through February 6th, 2011.
