The the Heritage Unit of the National Police of Spain in the Valencian Government has confiscated eighteen art forgeries attributed to the famous Cuban artist Wifredo Lam. The fake works could have been sold for over three million dollars had they been allowed into the Spanish market. According to the Spanish Chief of Police, Álvaro Rodríguez, and Eskil Lam, the artist's son and the copyright owner of his work, the pieces were rendered imitating Lam's style. As result of the operative, thirteen persons have been investigated, including the owners of the works and several intermediaries. The works appeared to have come from Cuba and belonged to private collectors in Valencia, Bilbao, Granada, Madrid, Seville, and Barcelona.
