Writer and curator Dermis P. León—an ArtNexus correspondent since 1995—has won the Contemporary Art Collection Curatorial Competition of the Museo de Artes Visuales (MAVI) and Galería Gabriela Mistral (GGM), as part of the 2014 Program of the National Council of Culture and Arts (CNCA, by its Spanish acronym). The results were announced at the beginning of January, 2015. The Galería Gabriela Mistral of CNCA in Chile offers its national and international call with the goal of exploring and showcasing through innovative curatorial approaches the works of the two collections, one private and the other public. As part of preselected proposals by 17 candidates, León's project focused in an interpretation of Chilean art from a woman's perspective. In their announcement, the jury formed by Pedro Montes, director of Galería Departamento 21, Luis Alarcón, director of Galería Metropolitana, and Soledad Novoa, curator and professor at the Universidad de Chile, said that León's project "is more daring and intriguing in the field of historiography and compellingly proposes women's themes. It is also viable in museographical terms and showcases works within the collections. It does not push a gender-based militant approach but instead favors of a more refreshing point of view."
