Colombian artist Delcy Morelos opens "El espacio vientre", an immersive installation that invites visitors to reflect deeply on the earth, fertility, and ancestral mythologies. Curated by Alejandra Labastida and Daniel Montero, the work is displayed in Room 9 of the MUAC, transforming the space into a sensory experience that involves sight, smell, hearing, and touch.
Using materials obtained from her visits to different regions of Mexico, such as the soil of cornfields, Morelos creates an atmosphere that breaks with conventional observation, inviting viewers to become active participants. The installation reflects the artist's vision of the earth as a feminine entity, linked to fertility and spirituality, and seeks to generate an intimate and transcendental connection with the environment.
The work alludes to circular structures from pre-Hispanic cultures, such as the Cuicuilco pyramid, and proposes a reversal of the traditional relationship with space. While the UNAM Sculpture Space acts as a visual frame for the landscape, "El espacio vientre" invites viewers to enter a space of protection and contemplation, in which the earth becomes a maternal womb.
The exhibition will be on view from October 18, 2025, to June 28, 2026.
