The Tenth Anniversary of Museo Jumex

Museo Jumex will celebrate its tenth anniversary as of November 2023, after a decade of exhibitions and public programs that have made it an essential contemporary art institution in Mexico.
It is established as the leading platform of the Fundación Jumex Arte Contemporáneo, created by philanthropist, art collector, and president of the Foundation Eugenio López Alonso; Museo Jumex has achieved international recognition for its dual mission to bring works by renowned international artists to Mexico for the first time and to magnify the work of today’s Mexican and Latin American artists. To commemorate its anniversary, Museo Jumex will present the exhibition entitled “Todo se vuelve más ligero” (Everything Becomes Lighter) throughout the building with works from the Jumex Collection curated by Lisa Phillips, Toby Devan Lewis director of the New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York, as well as a commemorative book edited by Rizzoli International Publications.
While offering a critical survey of the collection, with works created between 1964 and 2020, the exhibition will highlight poetic and personal responses to light as a healing force for today’s problems. Considering “light” as illumination and liberation from gravity, Everything Gets Lighter invites the public to explore ecology, identity, society, and spirit themes. Museo Jumex will present Waterfall (1998), a large-scale sculpture by Olafur Eliasson, in the museum’s plaza as part of the exhibition.
