In October of 2005, the monastery of Benedictine monks located in the neighborhood of Belgrano, in the Province of Buenos Aires (Argentina), reopened its doors to the public as La Abadía: Centro de Estudios Latinoamericanos. La Abadía will serve the mission of exploring Latin American identity through artistic production and social commitment. Under the directorship of Sebastián Blanco, and with Guillermo Alonso, former director of the Museo de Buenos Aires, in charge of institutional coordination and public relations, La Abadía will institute an artistic residency, a music school that includes a juvenile orchestra, as well as temporal art exhibitions. A library will also have a central role in the cultural activities organized. The space is currently presenting its inaugural exhibition titled "Land of Encounters, Cycles, and Colors" curated by Teresa Pereda. Built by the Benedictine monks in 1920, in the 1970s the monastery suspended its activities for more than three decades as result of the monk's relocation to the interior of the province to continue their work. The recently completed restauration respected the original materials and did not affect the architectural legacy of the place. More information is available at La Abadía homepage:
