New York's Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) has named David Platzker the curator of its Department of Prints and Illustrated Books, MoMA's director, Glenn D. Lowry, made the announcement.
Platzker, widely known for his expertise in artists' books, multiples, and ephemera of the post-1960 period, will work closely with Chief Curator Christophe Cherix, participating in the curatorial program, including exhibitions, special projects, and acquisition initiatives.
David Platzker was the curator for Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen between 1989 and 1998. During that period, he produced the catalogue raisonné titled Claes Oldenburg: Multiples in Retrospect 1964–1990 and curated the exhibition of the same name, which traveled to several European institutions between 1992 and 1997. Later, in 1997, he co-authored Printed Stuff: Prints, Posters and Ephemera by Claes Oldenburg: a Catalogue Raisonné 1958–1996 with Richard H. Axson. Between 1998 and 2004, Platzker was Project Director for Art Spaces Archives Project. Currently, he is Executive President of Specific Object, a curatorial and bookstore project he established in 2004.
