Colombian artist Danilo Dueñas has just been invited to the Berliner Kunstlerprogramm, one of the most important cultural programs offered by the German government, as well as one of the most prestigious in the world. The Berlin Artists-in-Residence program was founded in 1963 by the Ford Foundation. Artists such as Damien Hirst, Gabriel Orozco, and Serbian Marina Abramovic have also participated in the program. It is the first time that a Colombian artist has had the opportunity to participate. Dueñas considers himself a painter above all ¿ despite his works with discarded objects like lamps, tires, and cartons ¿ whose work may be contained within a frame or expanded in installations as large as an auditorium ¿ such as the one he created in 2008 in Cali for the National Artists' Salon, a work that led to his inclusion in the Berlin Kunstlerprogramm. This is not solely a great opportunity for Dueñas to be recognized, but it also opens a space for multicultural dialogue, in which the artist has been invited to develop his work for the one-year period and to share his experience with colleagues and cultural institutions devoted to education and research.
