Born in Havana, Cuba in 1914. In 1930 Bermudez attends Academia de San Alejandro, an art school that trained practically all generations of Cuban artists including those who later spurned its strict traditional teachings.
Bermudez completed his Law degree in 1941 from University of Havana struggling between a part time job, the demanding curriculum schedule at the
University and his painting. In 1944 the Museum of Modern Art opens the
exhibition “Modern Cuban Painting” giving a deserved recognition to all of the relevant Cuban artists of that generation among which was Cundo Bermudez. His career is one of a continuous success from that decade on with exhibitions in practically all major cities in Latin America, New York, Kansas City, San Francisco, Stockholm, Paris and Munich among many others.
He has designed murals in Puerto Rico at the Caribe Building, in Washington D.C. at the Organization of American States and in Miami at the Carnival Center. He went into exile in the 60’s living in Puerto Rico for almost thirty years before moving to Miami in 1996. Cundo’s work is about color, light and the Caribbean sense of joy.
