The 1980s marked an important moment in the establishment of continuities and ruptures within the southern region of Latin America, where democratic recovery and changes in postmodern paradigms configure a reality seldom unexplored in several cities. This seminar is developed from regional research based in cities where these changes were clearly manifested: Buenos Aires, Mendoza, Tucumán, Rosario and Mar del Plata in Argentina, São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, Santiago in Chile, and Montevideo in Uruguay. The scope of this activity in a prolific decade permits the analysis of the gestation of its own history based on an evolution—different in each place—that shapes the structure of globalization. The seminar is intended for visual artists, students currently completing undergraduate or graduate degrees in visual arts, professionals in other disciplines interested in contemporary visual arts, as well as professors, researchers, collectors and people interested in Latin American art, who wish to broaden their knowledge about a decade full of revelations concerning the development of physical and social bodies under the democracies or dictatorships of the South American region. The objectives of the seminar are basically: analyzing the dominant ideas and contexts of each city; particularizing the continuities and ruptures of the period through various theories; centering the question of the body on the production of visual artists working in the southern region of America during the 1980s; approaching dictatorships and the restoration of democracy as contexts for the artistic production of the time; examining group projects as emerging phenomenon and the individual as paradigm. Since the seminar is asynchronous, each participant must choose the days and times that best suits him/her to participate, do the readings and exercises. Costs for residents in Mexico are: $3,988.00 (one payment/after taxes) or $2,136.00 (two payments/after taxes) Mexican pesos.
