Cristián G. Gallegos

Cristián G Gallegos, since 2009 the Coordinator of Chile's Museo de Arte Contemporáneo's Education Unit, has been appointed General Coordinator of the Educational Program for the 10th Mercosur Biennial, to be held in Porto Alegre in September, 2015. The curator for the event if Gaudencio Fidelis (Brazil), who, in an attempt to recover the biennial's founding spirit, will focus on the artistic production of Latin American countries, following a strategy intended to "rewrite" the history of art in the region through a large-scale exhibition. The Educational program features actions and activities intended to build mechanisms for dialog, reflection, and learning through artistic production. It includes the training of mediators, meetings with teachers, labs, and visits, among others. Cristián G. Gallegos will be in charge of all processes and activities in the Program, from its editorial products to connected activities, as well as the selection of the pedagogical team. Gallegos, a visual artist and educator, graduated in Fine Arts from Universidad de Playa Ancha in Valparaíso and in Education from Universidad Andrés Bello. He also holds a Master's Degree in Visual Arts from Universidad de Chile. Sin 2000 his work has been exhibited in museums and galleries in Madrid, Barcelona, New York, Montevideo, Lima, Santiago, and Valparaíso, among other cities. Since 2009 Gallegos has worked as the Coordinator of the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo's Educational Unit in Santiago, Chile. He is also a founding member of the Latin America Museum Pedagogy Network and has participated in many roundtables and symposiums on museum education, both nationally and internationally, such as the Latin American Museum Pedagogy Conferences organized by the Goethe Institut in Quito, Medellin, and La Paz (2011-2013)
