To Hire Curator to Represent Catalonia in the 2015 Venice Biennale

The Institut Ramon Llull (IRL), a consortium created for the promotion of the language and culture of Catalonia abroad, announces its call to select a curatorial project with an artistic proposal for Catalonia to participate in the 56th edition of the Venice Biennale of Visual Arts, within the program Eventi Collaterali. The deadline to submit all applications is July 1, 2014. Proposals must: adhere to the conceptual framework established in the rules of the event, include newly created works and reflect Catalonian contemporary creation while maintaining a fruitful dialogue with the most important contemporary movements. The jury entrusted to select the winning project is presided over by Marta Gili, director of the Jeu de Paume, and formed by: Bartomeu Marí, director of MACBA; Joan Minguet, president of the Catalonian Association of Art Critics (ACCA) and professor of contemporary art at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB); Xavier Antich, president of the Board of Trustees of the Fundació Antoni Tàpies, professor of aesthetics and director of the graduate program in communications and Art Criticism at the Universitat de Girona (UdG); Martina Millà, head of programing and projects of the Fundació Joan Miró; Llucià Homs, director of Promoción de los Sectores Culturales of the Institut de Cultura de Barcelona; and Damià Martínez, head of the Área de Creación of the Institut Ramón Llull. The Call for Projects is Divided into Three Phases: The first, the Participation Phase, ends at 12 pm on July 1, 2014. In this phase, candidates must present a CV and a report of approximately two pages long that reflects the general ideas of the proposal, according to the conceptual framework and budget. The winning project of the Ideas phase will receive a purse of 4,000.00 euros—tax included, but subject to withholding of Spain's personal income tax or IRPF. The jury will select a maximum of three projects for the second phase, the Ideas phase, in which the initial proposal must be developed. The third phase corresponds to the hiring and execution of the winning project. The conditions and requirements to participate in the competition are established in the foundations featured on the webpage of the Institut Ramon Llull: http://www.llull.cat/espanyol/quisom/perfil_contractant.cfm
