The Corporación Chilena de Video y Artes Electrónicas (CChV) has announced the opening of entries for the 2024 edition of the Concurso Internacional de Artes Mediales y Audiovisuales Juan Downey 2024. This event, now in its 17th year, pays tribute to pioneering video artist Juan Downey and serves as a significant platform for both local and international video art. It provides a space for reflection on the evolution of formats and technologies in the audiovisual field.
This year’s competition focuses on exploring the construction of realities in the age of Artificial Intelligence and digital information manipulation. Participants are encouraged to submit works addressing themes such as Virtual Reality, transhumanism, the dreamlike, and magical or mythical narratives, aiming to reflect on contemporary reality and its blurred boundaries.
There are two categories for participation:
Microrrealities: Open to experimental international works presented on a single screen or exploring new technologies and digital platforms, including web, mobile devices, and interactivity. Artistic and conceptual proposals that reflect on current realities and fictions will be valued.
Video Art and Animation: Exclusive to video art and experimental animation works by Chilean artists or residents in Chile. This category will also include works from regions outside the Metropolitan Region.
Submissions will be accepted until August 18, 2024, at 23:59 (Chile local time, UTC-4). Entries must be submitted through the registration system detailed in the competition's guidelines.
