Confluencias. Dos Siglos de Modernidad en la Colección BBVA (Confluences. Two Centuries of Modernity in the BBVA Collection)

The BBVA Bank organizes this exhibition, curated by Tomás Llorens, to celebrate the Bicentennial of Colombia¿s Independence at the Museum of Modern Art in Bogotá. It will be open from March 18 to May 23, 2010. The exhibition entitled Confluencias. Dos Siglos de Modernidad en La Colección BBVA (Confluences. Two Centuries of Modernity in the BBVA Collection) consists of 60 artworks, many to be shown for the first time on this continent, by Spanish artists such as Goya, Madrazo, and Tápies, among others, in addition to other artists from Mexico, Venezuela, Chile, and Peru and works by Colombian artist Ricardo Gómez-Campuzano. The exhibition is divided into four themes: The Romantic Imagination, The Turn of the 19th/20th Century; Between Naturalism and Symbolism, The First Half of the Twentieth Century; The Vanguard and Modern Tradition, The Second Half of the Twentieth Century, and The State of the Image. Opening the exhibition is one of the most important works of the event; The Portrait of Pantaleón Pérez de Nerín, an oil painting by Francisco de Goya y Lucientes (1746¿1828). Likewise, another ten works by Goya from his series entitled The Caprices of Goya, represents one of the great chalcographic cycles by the genius from Aragón. The BBVA Collection is the result of the integration of artistic funds from the numerous entities that today are part of the BBVA Group. The works selected for the exhibition cover a wide range of styles and pictorial schools, mainly from Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Spain, Mexico, Peru, and Venezuela, as well as others from U.S. and European schools.
