International calling for the Direction of MACBA
International open call opens until May 7, 2021, to select the new director of the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Barcelona (MACBA).
Requirements for candidates: The director must have a university degree and a proven track record and experience in management and/or positions of relevance in museums and/or contemporary art centers. It is expected that he/she will be able to develop a policy of exhibitions, activities, and academic publications and continue to strengthen the museum's collection.
The following aspects will be valued:
-The ability to program exhibitions and activities following MACBA's mission.
-The ability to ensure the proper management of the collections, the criteria for new acquisitions, scientific activity, and the various programs (exhibitions, publications, education, sponsorships, etc.) carried out by the museum, under the organizational objectives set out in the current strategic plan (https://img.macba.cat/public/document/2019-09/macba-estrategia2022-reptes-objectius.pdf).
-Leadership skills, a high level of communication and negotiation skills, as well as planning, prioritization, and decision making.
-The degree of knowledge and links with the Catalan, Spanish and international cultural and artistic environment.
To assess the competency profile, psycho-technical tests and personal interviews may be carried out.
Sufficient knowledge of one of the two official languages of Catalonia is required to guarantee the correct development of their responsibilities. It is requested that within one year, they can develop in the other co-official language that must be properly accredited. A high level of English is also required, and knowledge of other languages will be valued.
Spanish nationality or nationality of a member country of the EU is required. In all other cases, the appointment will be conditional upon obtaining legal residence in Spain.
