"Septenio 2010" Photographic Competition

The government of the Canary Islands, through its septennial program, invites anyone ¿ amateur or professional from anywhere in the world ¿ to participate in the ¿Septenio 2010¿ Photographic Competition. The subject for this edition is entitled Las Islas del Mundo (Islands of the World). The concept does not merely refer to portions of land surrounded by water, because it also addresses other notions, such as isolated physical spaces, a person¿s isolation, and his/her non-communication and physical and emotional asceticism, as well as the secluded experience of living in the mountains and small villages ¿ which are virtual islands because of their remoteness and social isolation ¿ and solitude as such in an individual. Any photographic technique will be accepted (film, digital, collage, intervened, black & white, etc.) and the judges will focus on creativity in approaching the theme. Each participant must submit five (5) photographs. The best works will form a series that will include the best photo. Only original images that have not been previously submitted to other competitions or exhibited will be accepted. The prizes are divided into two categories: one will award series of photos, and the second, individual photographs. The first prize for a series will be 5,000 ¿, while the second and third prizes will be 3,000 and 1,000 ¿, respectively. The first prize for an individual photograph will be 3,000 ¿, and second and third prizes will be 2,000 and 1,000 ¿, respectively. The works selected and produced for the competition will remain the property of Septenio and will be included in the catalog as well as in the traveling exhibition organized after the competition. The deadline to submit all applications is April 8, 2010.
