Architecture Competition, New Wing of Contemporary Art

The Museo de Arte in Lima (MALI) announced its call for proposals for a new contemporary art wing. The expansion will include a library, new exhibition rooms, classrooms, workshops, a cafe and a public plaza. The winning proposal will also define the relationship of the space with the underground premises of Lima's future 2 and 3 subway lines. The projects must also incorporate a landscape proposal for the Parque de la Exposición, the important complex where the museum is located. The goal is to consolidate the MALI as a cultural and civic platform in Lima and while also establishing a precedent for future competitions associated with the design of public spaces in the Peruvian capital. The site where the project will be built is a 6,000 square meter area (not including the plaza and the landscape proposal) in Parque de la Exposición, located in the corner of Paseo Colón and Garcilaso de la Vega, two highly transited avenues at the entrance of the city's historic downtown area. Besides the specific area assigned for the project, the competition will also address the relationship between the museum and the park.
