The creation and recent inauguration of Concrete Space Projects, a completely conditioned two-story exhibition space located in the industrial section of Doral, has culturally revitalized this area of the city of Miami. Businessman Marcelo Llobell and artist Flor Mayoral have joined forces to spearhead an interesting project that seeks to establish a connection between contemporary art and the industrial world. The initiative aims at encouraging businesses in Doral to assign spaces to be used as venues in which to discuss, meet and organize exhibitions that promote the enjoyment of, and appreciation for, contemporary art. The plan is to activate unused spaces, empty offices or disabled storage areas, and transform them into alternative galleries where curators and artists are invited to participate with innovative projects and ideas. Concrete Space Projects was created precisely through the assignment of some spaces by Kertiles, a company headquartered in Doral since 1992 that produces ceramic tiles. Concrete Space Projects opened its doors on March 18 with the group exhibition titled "The Object and The Image (This is not a Chair Either)," curated by Willy Castellanos and Adriana Herrera of the Aluna Art Foundation. The space is located on 3400 NW 78th Ave., Doral, Florida.
