The Curatorial Intensive. Training Program

This October in New York, the ICI (Independent Curators International) is organizing the second edition of the Curatorial Intensive training program for emerging curators from around the world who wish to learn about and reflect on curating in the public realm. Between 10 to 14 curators participating in this open call will be selected to study with some of today's leading professionals working in the field of public practice. The following curators and professionals form part of this program: Nicholas Baume (Director and Chief Curator, Public Art Fund); Claire Bishop (Associate Professor, Ph.D. Program in Art History, CUNY); Dan Cameron (Founding Director, Prospect New Orleans); Kate Fowle (Executive Director, ICI); Mary Jane Jacob (Professor and Executive Director of Exhibitions, SAIC); Richard Marshall (Curator, Lever House); Anne Pasternak (President and Artistic Director, Creative Time), and Nato Thompson (Chief Curator, Creative Time). Participants will partake of a rigorous schedule of workshops, discussions, critiques, and individual sessions ¿ as well as visits to local institutions and conversations with artists ¿ and will be trained to develop their ideas into fully conceptualized proposals. The themes covered will include logistical issues such as producing and installing projects in public spaces, as well as concepts ranging from site-specificity to the social and political involvement that is an inherent part of the curatorial practice. Once the first phase of the project developed in New York is complete, ICI will continue working with participants long-distance in order to finalize their proposals for publication on the ICI¿s website, so as to allow exposure to a broad audience, as well as to the hundreds of institutions that work with ICI on a continuous basis.
