Internacional Frida Kahlo/Diego Rivera Colloquy

With ocassion of the centennial of Frida Kahlo¿s birthday and the 50th anniversary of Diego Rivera¿s decease, Casa de las Américas celebrated this encounter between September 12th and 14th. The colloquy had a multidisciplinary schedule. Its theoretical working days counted with speakers from Mexico and Cuba, connoisseurs of the lives and works of both artists, especially of Frida¿s. The renowned films Frida (of Julie Taymor) and Frida, naturaleza viva (Frida, live nature) (of Paul Leduc), and the documentaries: Frida Kahlo. La cinta que envuelve una bomba (Frida Kahlo: (The ribbon that ties the bomb) (of Jesús Muñoz) and other focused in Diego Rivera and Mexican muralism were exhibited. The theatre piece Cintas de seda, (Silk ribbons), where Cuban dramaturge Norge Espinosa established an imaginary convergence between Kahlo and another great woman of Mexican and Latin American culture: writer sor Juana Inés de la Cruz. In Havanna¿s Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes (National Museum of Fine Arts) the exhibit Homenaje a México. Muralistas en la colección del Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, (Homage to Mexico: Muralists in the National Museum of Fine Arts) with paintings and engravings from Rivera, Orozco and Sequeiros belonging to the exposition seat. Galería Latinoamericana, of Casa de las Américas, housed the collective exhibit that closed the Colloquy¿Viva la vida: Frida¿ (Viva the life, Frida), conformed by pieces of fifty six artists from Salón de la Plástica Mexicana. Three of them: Rina Lazo, Arturo García and Arturo Estrada ¿the first one Diego¿s collaborator; and the last two, Frida¿s disciples¿, contributed also with their oral testimony in this event, part of the Mexican independence anniversary celebrations.
