A meeting on June 27 at the Colombian Ministry of Foreign Relations in the Palacio de San Carlos in Bogota, was attended by the following persons: Luis Eduardo Cortés, President of IFEMA, the institution that organizes ARCOmadrid; Ramón Gandarias, Ambassador of Spain in Colombia, Luis Armando Soto, Director Cultural Affairs of the Colombian Ministry of Foreign Relations; and Jaime Cerón-Silva, Coordinator of the Group of Visual Arts of the Ministry of Culture of Colombia. They met to discuss the participation of Colombia as the guest country for the next edition of ARCOmadrid that will take place in Madrid, Spain, from February 25 to March 1 of 2015. One of the greatest attractions of the 34th edition of ARCOmadrid will be the ARCOColombia section. The delegation will be supported by the Government of Colombia and will include the participation of independent curator Juan A. Gaitán, who has been entrusted with the selection of the Colombian galleries that will participate in the program. This project will present a wide-ranging selection of Colombian artists as well as institutions, foundations and other important spaces from the Colombian contemporary art scene. Other activities, such as round tables, debates and other events that showcase Colombia's contemporary art scene will complement the program of exhibitions. Colombian art will also be present in the city of Madrid with group exhibitions and the presentation of artists in several of the Spanish capital's most representative exhibition spaces and museums. This cultural offer will be coordinated by the Colombian Ministry of Culture with the assistance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Colombia and the Embassy of Colombia in Madrid. Those who attended the June 27 meeting had this to say about the presence of Colombian art in ARCOmadrid: According to Luis Eduardo Cortés, President of IFEMA, "ARCOmadrid is much more that only the convergence of galleries and gallery owners to sell art—that is solely the beginning. The event also offers forums for discussion, visits to great private art collections in Madrid, the participation of professionals from around the world, as well as a generous number of activities that go beyond the presence of galleries," and Cortés concludes, "We welcome all the galleries from Colombia that are going to be present at ARCOmadrid. We are very proud that Colombia was selected as guest country for the 2015 edition. And we are also very proud that they have accepted." The Spanish ambassador, Doctor Ramón Gandarias, declared that "Colombia being invited as the central country for the great art fair that ARCOmadrid has become is the best thing that could happen to me. Because of the fair's international projection, I am very glad that a country as artistically busy as Colombia has the opportunity to showcase its enormous creativity in a place as splendorous as ARCO," and adds that "ARCO will become to a certain extent the crowning achievement of a great period experienced by Colombia in the fields of sports and culture." According to Jaime Cerón-Silva, Coordinator of the Group of Visual Arts of the Ministry of Culture of Colombia: "Given the relationship we have with the chancellery and with the Embassy, it has been highly important for the ministry of culture to take on the challenge of planning the role that Colombia will have in ARCOmadrid as guest of honor for the 2015 edition of the fair. We understand that this is a way to recognize the artistic activity that the country has experience in the last 30 years, and particularly in the last decade, in which a contemporary art has become more visible and has gained a greater international presence."
