Collector Beatriz Pimenta Camargo was chosen as President (through 2015) of the celebrated Museu de Arte de São Paulo, located on Avenida Paulista. She is the first woman to hold this post in the history of the institution.
"It is a challenge to take this position in Latin America's largest museum, with holdings admired by all. I always heard it said that having is easy, the difficult thing is to maintain. I intend to carry forward the projects of previous administrations, emphasizing the adjacent annex (MAP VIVO*)" Camargo explains in a recent interview with the newspaper O Estado de São Paulo.
The MASP museum was established in 1947 by the entrepreneur and journalist Assis Chateaubriand and the Italian journalist, art critic, and collector Pietro Maria Bardi, who was married to Lina Bo Bardi, the architect who created the museum's building.
Camargo will give continuity to ongoing projects and will concentrate on two areas, the opening of the new site MASP VIVO and the acquisition of new works for the collection.
