The Colección Patricia Phelps (CPPC) de Cisneros donated an important group of 45 works created by 33 Latin American contemporary artists to the Fundación Museo Reina Sofía. The gift supports exemplary research work by the Spanish museum centered on the artistic movements that have emerged in Latin America since the 1960s. Handed over to the collection of the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (MNCARS), the pieces belong to a period that spans from the 1960s to this day. Of particular importance are the works from the 1990s and the early years of the 21st century, a contemporary period that until now had been the least represented in the MNCARS's current Latin American art collection. The donation strengthens the institution's inquiries on the subject, as evidenced by the recent exhibition titled "Territories and Fictions. Art for Thinking the New Reason of the World (2016.2017)," organized by the Museo Reina Sofía with its own funds. The 33 participating artists—most of whom are from Brazil and Venezuela, although there are also some authors from Argentina, Colombia, Mexico, and the United States (Latinx)—represent a wide generational spectrum characterized by fostering a diverse number of artistic practices, including; painting, sculpture, installation, graphic work, drawing, artists' books, and photo collage, among others. The Colección Patricia Phelps de Cisneros had already given a donation to the museum's foundation in 2018 consisting of a group of works that focused on narratives pertaining to gender identity, territory, memory, and language. The works that will now become part of the museum's collection reflect for the most part on the materiality of artistic practices through conceptual approaches that explore the use of isolated creative production techniques. The artists represented in this donation are: Jaime Castro-Oróztegui, Marcos Coelho-Benjamim, Sigfredo Chacón, Paulo Climachauska, Eduardo Costa, José Damasceno, José Dávila, Danilo Dueñas, Iran do Espírito Santo, José Gabriel Fernández, Magdalena Fernández, Teresita Fernández, Héctor Fuenmayor, Rubens Gerchman, Fernanda Gomes, Alí González, Ester Grinspum, Arturo Herrera, Oscar Machado, Fabian Marcaccio, Roberto Obregón, Rosana Palayzan, Paulo Pasta, Nuno Ramos, Rosângela Rennó, Miguel Ángel Ríos, Maurício Ruiz, Valeska Soares, Edgard de Souza, Javier Téllez, Marcia Thompson, Angelo Venosa, and Augusto Villalba.
