On June 2, the Muntref Collection opened to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Museo de la Universidad de Tres de Febrero, Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The exhibition will be held in two parts: Chapter I: Present Continuous, from June to September at Muntref Centro de Arte Contemporáneo, held at the emblematic Hotel de Inmigrantes. Along with programmed activities, it introduces approximately 600 works gathered since 2002 through purchases, commissions, and donations. Among the latter is a work by French artist Christian Boltanski and an installation by Clorindo Testa donated by Marion Eppinger.
On July 14, the second part of the exhibition, Chapter II: Looking, Seeing, Imagining, will open at the Universidad Tres de Febrero (UNTREF) in Caseros, bringing together works by artists such as Luis Felipe Noé, who is currently finalizing the stained-glass window that will be presented there in September.
"It was in Caseros where the "first contemporary art museum in the conurbano bonaerense" was born," recalls Aníbal Jozami, Untref's rector for 25 years. In 2002 it occurred to me to bring art and culture to an area where there was nothing," he told the Argentine newspaper LA NACION. We started with Juan Carlos Castagnino and other great Argentine masters and continued with international ones, such as Picasso and Goya. Then we took Argentine artists abroad: the first one was Berni, who was exhibited at the Fundación Picasso in Malaga and the Royal Academy of San Fernando. The next stage was to bring contemporary artists, to create an international communication circuit, and the last one was the creation of Bienalsur, which has already had three editions".
