Under a new narrative, Coleccion en Escena #5. Fetiche: Conversaciones Materiales (Collection on Stage #5. Fetish: Material Conversations) is exhibited as the fifth part of a series that aims to propose a new approach to the museum's collection of Colombian artistic and cultural heritage.
The exhibition aims to investigate, under the term “fetish,” ideas and objects on the limits of the standard. The idea of “fetish” brings together dissimilar concepts such as devotion and materiality, desire and power, magic and artifice, totem and amulet, social construction of value, and individual appreciation, thus reflecting on the relationships we establish with the materiality of our context.
The show is divided into five sections that oscillate between the meanings and connotations of the word “fetish”, covering themes such as emptiness and eternity; astral and ancestral; alchemy; animism and spiritism; and the particularities of passion and eroticism involved in the discovery of the self.
The third and last 2024 exhibition cycle at the Museo de Arte Moderno de Bogotá (MAMBO) features three exhibitions. One gathers the works of French Algerian artist Kader Attia, the other Italian artist Elisa Giardina Papa, and lastly, Coleccion en Escena #5. Fetiche: Conversaciones Materiales will be on view until February 9, 2025.
