The University of Miami Cuban Heritage Collection

The University of Miami Cuban Heritage Collection will host the third multidisciplinary conference on October 17–18, 2019, to disseminate the work of advanced graduate students and emerging scholars that survey the current research and findings on Cuba and its diaspora. We encourage submissions across all fields and disciplines. The selection committee for the New Directions in Cuban Studies conference welcomes individual paper proposals that relate to the themes of fresh, innovative, and emerging research on Cuba, past and present. We welcome papers that engage or interpret any of the following thematic yet broadly defined panels: Visual Art and Performing Arts; Health, Science, and the Environment; Digital Cuba: Emerging Technologies; Challenging Cuban Diasporas; and Reframing Cuban Studies. The conference keynote address will be delivered by Dr. Esther Whitfield, Brown University. Currently enrolled graduate students can apply as well as emerging and early career scholars (defined as one having received the Ph.D. within the last five years). Past and current Goizueta Foundation Graduate Fellows are strongly encouraged to apply.
