The COAL Prize Art and Environment is awarded annually to a contemporary artist that submits a project related to the environment, with the objective of promoting and supporting the vital role of the arts in raising awareness and disseminating ecological culture. The winner will be selected by a jury of experts in the field of art, research, ecology and sustainable development. For its 2015 edition, the COAL Prize Art and Environment will take advantage of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (cop21)—and international encounter held in France from November 30 to December 10 of 2015, to negotiate an international agreement that will require all countries to commit to reducing global warming by 2 degrees Celsius by 2100—to open the door not solely to the general public, but also to the participants of the cop21; and show to these political actors that there are alternative ways to understand the complexity of the problem of climate change and to achieve a sustainable cultural change inspired by creativity and innovation. The deadline to submit all proposals is January 30 of 2015, and candidates must also include the following documents together in a single PDF document that is no more than 20 pages long: - Summary and illustrated description of the proposal - Detailed note of any technical aspects - Estimated budget - Curriculum vitae Applications will be evaluated considering the following criteria: artistic quality, relevance, originality, educational value, sustainability, social and participatory approach, among others. The Prize offers a purse of 5,000 euros to develop the project. COAL Prize Art and Environment is organized by theCoalition for Art and Sustainable Development (COAL, by its French acronym), a French association, with the support of the French Ministry of Culture and Communication, the Ministry of Ecology and Sustainable Development of France and the National Center for the Visual Arts.
