Ciudad como escenario

Art historian Ivonne Pini curates this exhibition of videos from the León and Celia Birbragher collection, open to the public at the ArtNexus Space in Bogotá through December 15th. For the artists gathered in this show, the urban space is a territory of experience, reconstructed in order to reflect collective experiences.

The exhibition presents the way in which seven Latin American artists see their cities, from perspectives that go beyond contemplation and everyday anecdotes to articulate important statements about memory, history, the environment, and the cities' inhabitants.

The exhibition includes Quien puede borrar las huellas (2005), by Regina José Galindo (Guatemala), winner of the Golden Lion for the best artist under 35 at the 51st Venice Biennale; Aria (2005), by Brooke Alfaro (Panama), first prize winner at the 3rd Visual Arts Biennial of the Central American Isthmus in 2003 and of the Inter-American Development Bank's Cultural Center award; Espectros urbanos (2003), by Donna Conlon (US, based in Panama), first prize at the Visual Arts Biennial of the Central American Isthmus; Unus Mundus – Round the World (2004), by Cinthia Marcelle (Brazil); Sin Peso (2006-2007), by Cao Guimarães (Brazil); Sextanisqatsi (2010), by Juan Brenner and Byron Marmol (Guatemala); and Edificio (2007-2008), by José (Tony) Cruz (Puerto Rico).

Ciudad como escenario will be open to the public Fridays and Saturdays from 10 am to 1 pm and 2 pm to 6 pm, through December 15, 2012.
